Beautiful weather prevailed to-day for the one-day autumn meeting of the Whangarei Racing Club,, held on the club’s course at Mair, and there was a large attendance and keen racing. The track was in fine order. Results: TRIAL STAKES Of £110; 6 fur. 1— BRITISH KING, 8.0, G. Goulsbro 1 2 SOLARNIO, 8.0, R. When they were let go Kawiti, Kaihoremai and Segment went out very fast, but once settled down Segment was making play from Kaihoremai, with British King, Kyngzone, Kawiti, Solanio, Maori Boy and Valsier following. Crossing the top the favourite and Segment were in th© van, with Kyngzone, Mapri Boy, Solanio and Valsier their nearest attendants: Then that was the end of it, for British King cleared out, turning for home eight lengths ahead of Segment, with Kyngzone, Maori Boy, Valsier and Solar! o in that order. Easing up, British King won with ridiculous ease by half a dozen lengths from Solanio, who finished well. Maori Boy was another half-length hack, after whom came Kyngzone, Segment, Valsier, Miss Myrtle and Gazerim. PORTLAND HACK HANDICAP Of £135; 5 fur. I—MELISSA, 9.13, L. Weight Did Not Stop Filly There was a spirited duel for favouritism in tho Portland Hack between Melissa £735 and Appellant £732, with a big drop to the third choice, Pinon £357. Exalted began smartest from Desert Knight, Melissa and Scaramouche, and running to come across the top there had been several changes, Pinon and Melissa being together, with Desert Knight, Appellant, Exalted, Palmares and Lord Abbey next. MelistV and Pinon were still on terms at the home turn, with Lord Abbey handy. The favourite got clear at the dis--tance, when Desert Knight and Palmares both challenged, a fine finish seeing Melissa prevail with all her weight by three parts of a length over Desert Knight, with Palmares half a length a.way, third. Corinax’s Easy Win The principal event, the Mclnnes Memorial Handicap, proved to be the best of good things for Corinax, who was made favourite with £Bl5, while Eden Hall £642, and Papatu £444 were best-backed of the others in a one-dividend field. The five runners got away together, Corinax going to the front from Macroom and Papatu. Passing the stands Corinax had a length’s advantage over Macroom, with Papatu, Right and Left and Eden Hall next. The last-named got through going out of the straight, and was first into the back stretch, but his attempt was short-lived, for the favourite soon got to the front again, and at the halfmile was a length ahead of Eden Hall and Macroom, with Papatu and Right and Left following. In the home stretch Corinax held an advantage of a length and a-half over Eden Hall, the latter being two lengths clear of Macroom and Papatu. QUIET ELLERSLIE WEEK BEFORE EASTER THIS MORNING’S GALLOPS With all but a few trainers absent at Whangarei, there was not a great deal of exciting work don© at Ellerslie this morning. Certainly there was very little doing when it is remembered that the Auckland Easter meeting opens today week. The course proper was open for fast work, and all the galloping recorded was executed on that track. The trestles were wide out over 40ft, and the extra distance thus required to b© covered did not make for fast times, although Princess Ronnie’s six furlongs after breakfast was -well worth noting, as also was the two-year-old Gold Money’s half-mile. Salamander did no better than 1.25 3-5 for six furlongs, but The Fox was finishing on at the end of the same journey, occupying 1.22 2-5, th e first three being left behind in 39. Gold Money in Form Ellerslie’s hope in the G.N. Champagne Stakes, Gold Money, showed up favourably in a half-mile spin in company with King Emerald. The pair

started from the new mile-post and ran together to the four furlongs, being then eased up and cantered to the winning post. They were almost in full gear passing the mile peg, to run the initial furlong in 13, the two in 25 2-5, three in a smart 36 3-5, and tho last furlong (over the hill:) in 14 4-5, making the half-mile which was good going. The filly had the outside running, and the worst of the weights, and appeared to be galloping stronger at the finish than King Emerald. Gold Money is to be ridden in the two-year-old classic next Saturday by C. Brown. Parfait Amour was not bustled to return 1.10 for the last five of six furlongs, and Diamond Queen, under pressure, ran six furlongs in 1.22. Archibald's Task Archibald went one© round, starting off at three-quarter pace and sprinting home from the four furlongs in 53, the last three in 39 1-5. The Archiestown gelding appears to be in great order for his engagement in the Brighton Hurdles next Saturday. The two-year-old Bulolo moved nice and freely over six furlongs in 1.22 4-5, the last four taking 55 4-5. *■ Two other youngsters in Jolly Money and Te Money sprinted three furlongs, running the last two in 26. They are hardly ready for serious business yet, but are furnishing nicely. Lomint, who is fast getting into racing trim, and Welkne, also looking well, wer© given six furlongs on the tan, running the distance comfortably in 1.25 2-5. Going Faster at End After breakfast on the course proper, Princess Ronnie was slipped from the six-furlong post. She was rather slow over the first and second furlongs, which took 13 2-5 and 28 respectively, but she cut out the three furlongs in 40. Th© last three furlongs occupied 39 3-5, making the time for the full distance 1.19 3-5, which was good. The Princess looks all the better for her two races at the Franklin meeting, and should run prominently in the President’s Handicap next Saturday. Nola Night was of little use to Kauri Park over a moderate last six of seven furlongs, which took 1.27 4-5. Kauri Park is a fine upstanding gelding, and should make a name for himself when thj jumping season is started in earnest.
