HIS THIRD BRIDE
AMERICAN GIRL AND MAHARAJA CONVERT TO HINDUISM Details are now available regarding the latest matrimonial adventures of the former Maharaja Holkar of Indore, says a message from Bombay. It will be recalled that he abdicated in February, 1926, after an inquiry into the sensational attempt to abduct his former favourite dancing girl, Mumtaz Begum, and the murder of her protector, Mr. Bawla, a rich Bombay merchant. The ex-Maharaja recently returned here from the United States. It is disclosed to-day that Miss Miller, an American described as “in the twenties,” whom the ex-Maha-raja met in America arrived in Bombay some days ago. She attracted considerable attention. She had a chaperone who posed as her grandmother, and she was accompanied by two Indian members of the ex-Maharaja’s suite. On arrival strenuous attempts were made by the American consul and, it is understood, by an official of the Indian Government to dissuade her from proceeding to Indore. She refused to change her mind, with the result that the officials w'ashed their hands of the whole affair. The ex-Maharaja is expected in Indore shortly, and he will be joined by Miss Miller. She will be converted to Hinduism before the wedding;. The ex-Maharaja’s proposed marriage to a white woman is creating a great sensation in Indore, as he has already two wives living. According to the British United Press, Miss Nancy Ann Miller is stated to be the daughter of a gold miner who made good in the goldfields in Alaska.
