UNEMPLOYMENT DECREASE

Figures supplied by the Labour Department this morning show a substantial decrease in the number of unemployed, nearly 100 less men being registered compared with last week. More men were placed in employment, and the outlook is better. A total of 780 men registered, compared with 877 last week. Men classed as fit for heavy work number 664, and those suitable for only light work total 166. The figures for the preceding week were 738 and 139 respectively. During the week 205 men were placed in employment, compared with 72 for the week ending March 24.
