VICTORIA LEAGUE
MEETING OF COUNCIL There was a good attendance at the first council meeting of the year of the Victoria League. Several new members were elected. Members regretted extremely having lost such a valuable member as Mrs. Hudson Williamson. She was a member lor a great many years, and during the war her Red Cross work with the Snowball teas brought in a large sum of money. The usual mark of respect was paid her by standing in silence. A letter was received stating that Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Isaacs had accepted their election as hon. life members of the league. The town clerk wrote saying that the league’s request to hold its annual Daffodil Day had been granted. Mr. Luxford wrote resigning his position on the council in consequence of his removal from Auckland. A letter from the junior branch of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire and Children of the Empire, Toronto, was received, and arrangements were made to supply the names of children from Auckland who would wish io correspond with children in Canada. Mrs. J. Finn was elected a vicepresident; Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane. chairman of the * Ever-Ready Committee; and Miss M. Gerrard, chairman of the Care of Soldiers’ Graves Committee, were elected to the executive. Messrs. C. C. Chalmers and N. Duthie were elected to the council.
