CHESTNUTS’ DAY?
THE majority of the events at Whangarei to-morrow bear an open appearance, but there are one or two contests that will at least see warm favourites on the machine.
British King, a fine type of thoroughbred, impressed considerably when brought down to race at Takapuna a couple of months ago, and he finished fourth. He is in the Trial, as well as other events. He wili.be heavily supported in the Trial, and probably again in the Settlers if brought forth twice.
Then there is Welcome Home, who also claims two engagements. His mission may be the Maungatapere Hack, and well drawn he will be at short odds. There seems little doubt but that Macroom will be backed for the Stewards, as if the race was all over, and she certainly seems to be the form horse.
Another that will not lack friends to-morrow will be Ballymoy 11. The imported mare has been galloping remarkably well, and her form in the mile will be closely followed. All those mentioned above are chestnuts, so apparently that is the colour to follow to-morrow!
