PELTZER PHONES HOME DETAILS OF HIS DEFEAT

CONGER, American mile champion, defeated Dr. Otto Peltzer, lanky schoolmaster and sprinting star of Germany, in a special 1,000 metres race at Chicago last month. Peltzer had the lead in the last lap, but Conger came to light with a brilliant final sprint, and romped in a good ten yards ahead of his rival. Peltzer is reported to have been much affected by his defeat, details of which he later transmitted to the athletic authorities in Germany, via the transAtlantic telephone.
