KIA ORA DUE SATURDAY.—A radio message received by A. S. Paterson and Co. states that the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Kia Ora is expected to arrive at Auckland on Saturday afternoon from Liverpool. The vessel is bringing general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. NEW "MONARCH" STEAMER. —From the yards of Napier and Miller, Old Kilpatrick, the steamer Caledonian Monarch, 430 ft in length between perpendiculars, by 56ft in breadth, by 30ft 6in depth moulded ! about 5,835 tons gross, and to carry 3,44 h tons deadweight, to have a sea speed of 12 knots loaded, was launched on July 11. The owners are Raeburn and Verel, Ltd., Glasgow. Years ago ‘’Monarch” vessels came to Australia regularly, and such names •hs the Irish Monarch, Indian Monarch and Ocean Monarch may easily be recalled to memory, says a Sydney writer. TWO STEAMERS TO BE SUNK.— With the exception of her bronze propeller, valued at £2OO, the old steamer Coogee, which will soon be sunk outside Port Philip Heads, has now been stripped of her fittings. The propeller v/ill be removed as soon as a dock is available. Built in 1887 at Sunderland, the Coogee came to Australia the following year and entered the Huddart-Parker Company's Melbourne-Launeestoa passenger service. In 1918 she was chartered by the Commonwealth Government, and arm ;d with guns fore and aft. In the following year she was engaged in the Government cable service in Bass Straits. The Coogee has been laid up at a river berth since 1922. Another okl steamer, the Union Company’s Rotomahana, which has been lying at Port Melbourne for several years, will also be sunk as soon as the work of removing her high-grade iron nlates is completed.
