Young Shepherd Breaks Arm. —A lad, Clarence Love, of Waiotira, aged 13 years, while assisting to muster sheep, had a nasty fall, receiving a double fracture of the forearm.
Swimming Pupil Faints. —While learning to swim in the Whangarei school baths yesterday Doreen Conaghan fainted and sank. The master. Mr. Harris, quickly rescued her, and she responded to artificial respiration.
Probation Granted. —Appearing for sentence at the Police Court to-day on a charge of stealing £25, Harry Taylor, aged 43, was placed on probation for two years and ordered to make restitution.
Charged With Theft. Andrew Dodds, aged 49, was charged at the Police Court to-day with being idle and disorderly and stealing an attache case and contents valued at £7. He was remanded for a week.
Sent to Borstal,— A youth aged 19, who appeared at the Police Court today for sentence on a charge of stealing £4, was committed to the Borstal Institute for three years. His was suppressed.
Sentence Deferred. —Hugh Joseph O'Brien, aged 28, who appeared for sentence at the Police Court to-day on a charge of stealing £7 2s 6d. was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence in 12 months.
Additions to School.— Additions to. the Hamilton Technical School have been authorised and tenders for carrying out the work will be invited shortly, according to advice received by Hamilton Technical School Board.
Grocer for Trial-— Stephen Gough, a grocer, was committed for trial in Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, on a charge of breaking and entering a house on March 25, intending to commit a crime.—Pres* Ass.
Trapping on Rangitoto. —The Ranpitoto Domain Board has an eye on the revenue that may be obtained from trapping opossums on the island. Last evening it issued a sole licence to a trapper and other applicants for permits to trap were advised to interview the sole licensee.
Devonport Sea Wall. —Tenders received by the Devonport Barougr: Council for stonefacing the sea wall on Queen’s Parade exceeded the estimated cost and fresh tenders are to be called specifying the partial use of stone with an area of 459 ft, in place of the minimum of 659 ft originally planned.
Alleged Burglar* Remanded.— Charged with breaking and entering the premises of John Franklin, at Whakatane. and stealing goods, cheques and money to the value of £l5O, James William Shaw and Charles Barclay Dewar appeared in the Whakatane Police Court yesterday and were remanded till to-morrow.
Spoiling Volcanic Cone*. —A combined meeting of the Auckland branches of the New Zealand Institute of Architects and of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors discussed the spoiling of the volcanic cones on the Auckland Isthmus and agreed tha* drastic measures were necessary t » prevent further destruction.
