MAURICE MOSCOVITCH

“THE RINGER” AT EASTER On Easter Saturday the J. C. Williamson, Ltd., management will present the famous and brilliant dramatic artist, Mr. Maurice Moscovitch, and a powerful company in the first New Zealand production of Edgar Wallace’s sensationally successful mystery play, “The Ringer,” which has just terminated record seasons in Sydney and Melbourne.

It is a character that gives Mr. Moscovitch every opportunity for the display of his dramatic genius, and Australian critics declared that never before has an actor risen to greater heights in dramatic art than does Mr. Moscovitch in the intense climax to the play. The company supporting Mr. Moscovitch is regarded as the best that has ever toured Australia or New Zealand, including, as it does, Mr. Patric Curwen, a noted London artist; Mr. Nat Madison, the talented young actor; Mr. Reginald Newson, Mr. Ashton Jarry, Mr. George Blunt, Mr. Guy Hastings, Miss Mary McGregor, Miss Bertha Riccardo and Miss Kiore King. The plot of “The Ringer” is a most remarkable one, and while the audience is thrilled again and again by rapidly succeeding dramatic scenes, there is sufficient humour to relieve the tension of the audience. It is generally conceded that “The Ringer” is Edgar "Wallace’s most gripping and most successful play. It is skilfully constructed and the characters are all splendidly from life. Of sensation there is plenty, but it is not in any way exaggerated, and the incidents are linked together by a subtle, gripping chain of mystery. It is not until the final scene that the identity of the Ringer is revealed, and out of consideration for the enjoyment of patrons the mystery has been kept a close secret by those who •have previously witnessed this powerful drama. Only a limited number of performances can be staged of “The Ringer,” as during the brief season •The Terror” is also to be staged. The box plans will be opened at Lewis R. Eady’s on Tuesday morning.
