EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY

PROPOSED FORMATION As the result of a conference representative -of business, labour and commercial interests called by the Hon. George Fowlds to consider how a closer co-ordination can be secured between the training of young people and the needs of their later lives, an Auckland Educational Society may be formed. A public meeting will be held in the University College Hall, Princes Street, at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 16. The Hon. George Fowlds will be in the chair. The speakers will include Dr. H. Belshaw, professor of economics, Mr. T. Bloodworth and Mr. A. G. Lunn, The objects of the society are to evolve an educational system which will provide the maximum development of the individual and enable him to take his place in the economic and social life of the community, to coordinate the different grades of education without sacrificing good general schooling to early vocational training, and to encourage co-opera-tion between parents and the schools. It is hoped later to investigate educational problems and to publish them in regular bulletin form. Cultural or vocational training and social guidance will he encouraged after formal education has been completed at primary or secondary schools.
