Botnar, on behalf of the Tran kiln Hockey Association, presented the Rev. C. H. Kendon. who is the president of the association, with a case of pipes ; a slight recognition of the keen interest taken by him in this branch of ' sport. Mr. Kendon suitably replied. WAIHI HIGH SCHOOL REMODELLING PLANS
Plans for the remodelling of the j Waihi restrict High School were submitted to the Waihi Schools Committee on Saturday by the Auckland Education Hoard. The report attached to the plans stated that it was desirable that the j ] secondary department should be sen- r a rated from and not wedged in v:\ ; the primary division, as at present, and suggested that the secondary scholars ; be housed in four rooms at the town ] end of the building. The plan provided ] for the headmaster's office serving as a teachers’ room, and a new office ; would be provided in the centre of : the school. The estimated cost was } £.675, with £l3O for the painting of; the building. The headmaster. Mr. R. C. D. Light- j « bourne, informed the committee that to meet the present situation it would be ; necessary to erect a room 12 feet long, to be divided by folding doors, at the back of Standard VL room. The committee decided to adopt the headmaster's recommendations and to make application to the Minister in terms of the same. • • • The harvest festival services in connection with St. James’s Presbyterian Church were attended by large congregations on Sunday. The combined Waihi and Waikino choirs rendered special music, Mrs. J. W. Jones, of Waikino, being the soloist. The Rev. . J. D. McFarlane was the preacher at . both services. Dairy Co., held in the company's factory, the following resolution was carried unanimously: ‘That the company go into voluntary liquidation.” The assets of the company will be offered for sale shortly. Mr. T. H. Pearson was appointed liquidator. Owing to the fact that Mr. Wyvere Wilson, S.M., will be absent for six ' months, a part of his work will be undertaken by Mr. S. Paterson. S.M.. whose district at present includes Opotiki and Whakatane. The latter districts will now be taken over by Mr. E. C. Levvey. S.M.. who is at present in charge of the districts of Gisborne, Wairoa, East Coast and Te Karrha. PAPAKURA NEWS LICENSING OF DRIVERS A departmental memo from the Minister of Public Works drawing the board’s attention to the Licensing of Motor Vehicles Act was read at a meeting of the Papakura Road Board on Monday evening. It stated that the toll of motor i vehicles was increasing, and stronglyrecommended that a much more severe test be imposed upon applicants for licences. The department recommended a practical, severe test with a view to ascertaining the suitability |of the applicant to drive a motorI vehicle through the busiest streets of , the city*, and also .the most dangerous places in the country*. » The board agreed that it was useful
