STOWAWAY GROOM SEEKS LONG TAXI RIDE
DESERTER FROM AORANGI Besides being a runaway bridegroom and a stowaway on the biggest passenger ship to ply in New Zealand waters, Basil Lamon Stanley is an optimist. After deserting the Aorangi on Monday afternoon, leaving his young wife on board, Stanley, whose failure to produce a passport caused his apprehension by the authorities, approached an Auckland firm of taxis and asked to be taken to Wellington, requesting that the commission be executed on credit. It is superfluous to add that the request was refused. The police authorities are not moving toward the apprehension of the deserting stowaway, the officials stating that this is a question for the permit officer of the Customs Department. The Customs, on the other hand, have not yet taken action. In the meantime Stanley is witnm the Dominion, and his yor.ng wife is two days steam from Auckland on the high seas between New Zealand and Australia.
