GATE TAKINGS HIGH IMPROVEMENTS AT CARLAW PARK Although bad weather prevailed throughout the year, the Auckland Rugby League, according to its annual report and balance sheet, to be presented at the annual meeting on April 11, has had a most successful season the most successful perhaps in the history of the code. TT is reported that on 13 Saturdays A wet weather was experienced out of 28 playing days, and counter-attrac-tions contended with, were considered much stronger than on any previous occasions. The gate-takings, however, were considerably higher than in previous years. During the season there were only two representative matches, and the whole of the gate-takings, which amount to. £3.622 ISs 7d, were obtained from club fixtures. According to the working account, £366 was received from advertising, £520 10s from subscriptions and donations. Insurance and other receipts amounted to £93 5s 2d, and ground rents £206 3s 4d; all these items making a total amount of £4,809 Is Id. WELL-TREATED PLAYERS The League has liberally treated Its players. £475 was spent on touring teams and £496 17s Id in accident insurance to injured players. Other expenses were; Maintenance and improvements to ground, £562 12s; wages to the ground staff, £348; rent and ground rents, £671 Is 6d; advertising, £3lO Is 8d; interest, £B2 11s; junior representative teams, £49 16s. On the year’s working profits amounted to £1,404 2s sd. Again the League made big donations to charity which benefited to the extent of £l2B 17s 6d. Grants were made to clubs of £4Ol 17s 6d, to visiting teams £6l, and to the Referees’ Association £53. Trophies and caps cost £ 62, and a sum of £506 was carried forward to th© reserve fund, which is £9,735 10s lOd.
