AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALLERS
PROPOSED TOUR OF N.Z. QUESTION OF GUARANTEES Press Association. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Although the council of the New Zealand Football Association met tonight in the hope of reaching a definite decision as to whether there shall be a tour of the Dominion by an Australian team during the coming season, the position is still indecisive, as the cablegram extending the invitation hinges on the local associations being willing to give the necessary financial guarantees. In the meanwhile the finance committee is ascertaining what guarantees will be necessary from the respective associations to guard against any possible loss falling upon the New Zealand Council, whose financial resources are so strained that-it cannot proceed unless guarantees are forthcoming. As soon as these figures are available these, together with the council’s estimate as to the cost, etc., of the tour, will be forwarded to the respective associations asking them whether or no they will give a guarantee. A cablegram is being sent at once extending an invitation provided guarantees are forthcoming.
