WHEN MAKING CURTAINS
When making short curtains for your windows run a hem about two inches wide at the top. Take some elastic one inch wide and a little less in length than the width of your window. On to each end of the elastic sew a little brass ling, one that will easily go through the hem in the curtain. Slip these little rings on to the hooks at the side of the window for hanging the curtains. You will have no sagging curtains if you do them this way. Always take the elastic out when washing them. When making curtains and blinds allowance should always be made for shrinkage in the wash. Hems for running the rods or elastic through should be made twice the width needed. Always make the curtains at least nine inches longer when first making them. To keep specks of paint from window panes when painting round the sash, make a wide mark all round the glass nearest the sash with a wedge of laundry soap. With ordinary care this will keep paint off the glass, and spots on the soarted part will come off when the soap is washed away after the paint is dry.
