THEATRICAL RECORDS
HELD BY MOSCOVITCH POPULAR COMPANY ARRIVES Holding several theatrical records. including the longest Australian contract ever held by an overseas artist. Mr. Maurice Mpscovitch, widely known actormanager, arrived by the Marama to-day with his company. When his pi-esent contract is finished, Mr. Moscovitch will have been playing in Australia and New Zealand for four years. This time he has two real “thrillers”—"The Terror” and “The Ringer,” for the New Zealand public, both of them written by Edgar Wallace. He will open in Auckland and tour through to Dunedin, where, after the current season, he will put on a new play, “The Silent House.” This piece will then be played in a return tour, ending in Auckland. Record-breaking business in Australia has been done with the Wallace plays, and the repeated “false starts” for New Zealand have been duo to the excess of business. Both Sydney and Melbourne saw the plays for 14 weeks and Mr. Moscovitch is booked for return seasons after the New Zealand tour. After that he will go back to London for a well-earned rest. Two new leading women come with the plays. Miss Bertha Riccardo, who stars in "The Terror,” is a South African by birth, who played in drama and musical comedy there before she came to Australia and appeared in “Tip Toes.” She was also the “Rose Marie” of a second company which played that delightful musical comedy. The other lead is Miss Mary Macgregor, who was prevented from coming over with the company on its last visit by illness. She was here, however in “Cappy Ricks.” She played in Boucicault’s Barrie plays, which, unfortunately, did not come to the Dominion. Her big part this time is in “The Ringer." Miss Kiore King, a Hastings girl who has made a guceess of the stage, is again with the company. „ . _ Messrs. Nat Madison, Pat Curwin, Ashton Jarrv, who has been here eight times, and George Blunt, are prominent members of the company, which will have about a week’s rest before the opening of the season.
