GROSS NEGLIGENCE
CANADIAN MINE DISASTER By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright OTTAWA, Saturday. The coroner’s jury which inquired into the Hollinger mine fire disaster at Timmins, Ontario, in which 39 men lost their lives, found that there had been gross negligence on the part of the management and operating executives. They were blamed for permitting rubbish to be dumped in the old stopes.— A. and N.Z. The fire occurred on February’ IX. Forty-seven men were t rapped in the mine and the smoke hindered the work of rescue. Two relief trains carrying gas-masks broke all speed records from Toronto to Timmins, a distance of 452 miles, when rushing to the scene with equipment for the rescuers.
