TO TOUR DOMINION
Y.M.C.A. CHIEF ACTIVITIES IN 60 COUNTRIES “During the 14 months I have been travelling round the world, I have noted the work of the Young Men’s Christian Association in most of the 60 countries where it is represented,” said Mr. John W. Cook, on the Aorangi yesterday. “I am glad to say that the movement is flourishing everywhere, and memberships have been doubled since the war.” Mr. Cook, who is now on the retired list, was many years general secretary of the biggest Y.M.CJL branch in the world—the Brooklyn “Y” in New York. This branch of the Y.M.C.A. has a membership of 10,000, and property valued at nearly £1,500,000. It controls 18 subsidiary associations almm* istered by 175 secretaries, who are accommodated in 15 different buildings. After six months of touring and constructive conference with Y M.C.A directors and officers in Australia, Mr. Cook will return to New Zealand and continue his mission of teaching, and, he hopes, learning new ideas in the administration of the associations.
