CRICKET IN OTHER CENTRES
ALBION WINS DUNEDIN CHAMPIONSHIP Press Association. DUNEDIN. Sunday. After a great fighting innings, with the odds all against it. Albion drew with Grange yesterday and won the first grade cricket championship. Grange declared on the previous Saturday with six wickets down for 409, and the passing of that total was too difficult a task for Albion to attempt. Had Grange secured a twopoint win by beating Albion in the first
innings the teams would have been equal in points, but Grange would have won on the averages. The only course open to Albion was to play for a draw. This the team succeeded in doing, losing seven wickets for 305 before stumps were drawn. Shepherd scored 84, Barron 58 and Duncan 40. Dunedin beat Carisbrook by nine wickets and secured a three-point win. Dunedin made 126 (Cherry 31) and 75 for one wicket (Cavanagh 47 not out). Carisbrook made 133 and 63. For Carisbrook Dickinson took five wickets for 43 runs, and Blunt five for 54. For Dunedin Torrance took three wickets for 18 and Matheson four for 42. CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The final round of the championship cricket matches was commenced yesterday in ideal summer weather and on hard wickets. The day’s play left Old Boys still favourites for the champion-
ship. They have a good chance to secure a three-point win, which will make them the champions. If they should secure only a two-point win, Riccarton, by scoring a three-point win, may still draw level. West Christchurch batted first against Old Boys for 208 (Haynes 44, Hayes 58, Condliffe S 3). Innes took five wickets Tor 16 run:;. Old Boys lost two wickets for 61. Old Collegians scored 183 against Riccarton (Chrystall 37, Hamilton 37, Jaekman 61 not out). Evans took six wickets for 81.. Riccarton lost two wickets for 94 (Cox 39, Roberts 32 not out).
