“Athletes Exalted to Throne of God”

OLYMPIC GAMES CLERGY PLANS CAMPAIGN By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. ?.5 a.m. AMSTERDAM, Sunday. Seven clergymen belonging to the Gereformecrde Church are opposing the Olympic Games because the games are contrary to the principle of !ov:ng God above ail, and one's neighbour as one's self. They assert that the games exalt the strongest to a place God alone should occupy, while the neighbour craving notoriety and glorification allows himself to be exploited to satisfy the masses’ craving for sensation. This cult of the hero is opposed, tlv'y hold, to all sacred commands. The Gerformeerde Church has decided on an evangelising campaign through the neighbourhood of the Olympic stadium, urging people not to accommodate foreigners visiting the games.—A. and N.Z.-Sun.
