ST. JAMES’S CHURCH

SIXTY-THIRD ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL SERVICES HELD The 63rd anniversary of the opening of St. James’s Presbyterian Church was celebrated yesterday by special services in the morning and evening. The Rev*. Evan R. Harries was the officiating minister and the evening service was broadcast. A reunion of parishioners will be held in St. James’s Hall this evening, when the Rev. Thomas Halliday, Moderator of the Presbytery, will preside and Mr. A. J. Entrican will trace the history of the church. St. James’s Church was the first branch of St. Andrew’s, the mother church in Auckland. Mr. The mas Macky originally founded St. James’s in 1859 when he built a small church in Hobson Street, opposite where St. Matthew’s now stands, at a cost of £450. The Rev. George Brown, who has now reached the age of 97 and who lives at Norman's Hill, Onehflnga, conducted services in this building in 1860. On a site presented by Mr. William Gorrie the present church was erected in 1865 at a total cost of £3,366. The Rev. Evan R. Harries, who was inducted exactly four years ago yesterday. is at present in charge if the church.

Mr. Robert Tudehope, who attended the opening service 63 years ago. was a member of the congregation yesterday morning.
