As “Sorrell and Son” is now in. its last week of screening at the Strand Theatre, picture-goers are advised to make the most of their opportunities, as it will be some months before this wonderful film is screened again in Auckland. Many picturesque places in .England
were used by Herbert Brenon as b a c kgrounds for this wonder f u 1 screen vers i o n of W a r w ick I) e e ping’s famous novel. At historic old M a r 1 o w, s e v er a 1 scenes were made from an ancient paper mill bridge, with Marlow Church and bridge in the distance. About this film has been written this: “The intelligent restraint with which Mr. Brenon has woven - his story of mutual father-and-son affection, minimised the possibility of any maudlin sentimentality detracting from the high theme of the story. The quality in Warwick Deeping’s noveT is preserved in the film, incidentally, made by an Englishman in England, with a cast principally English. More than that, the spirit and the letter of the book are to be found in the film. “The acting of H. B. Warner, Mickey Mcßan, Alice Joyce, Louis Wolheim Anna Q. Nilsson, Lionel Belmore, Carmel Myers, Nils Asther and other practised performers in the cast leaves nothing to be desired. It is indeed a fine production, and one which should be seen by everyone.’’ A special musical programme arrang e d by talepted Eve Bentley is played by the Strand Symphony" Orchestra throughout the screening of the photo-piny. “The Rose,” a delightful musical medley of well-known English airs, is the overture.
