THE SUN CELEBRATES ITS FIRST BIRTHDAY

PICNIC AT PINE ISLAND The first anniversary of The Sun was celebrated by a picnic at Pine Island yesterday. About 600 members of the staff and friends travelled to the island by ferry, and thoroughly enjoyed an outing which had been excellently arranged by a staff committee. Particular attention was paid to the children, of whom about 150 were present, and they raced in a variety of events. An attractive prize list and spirited conmetition made the senior sports programme a success. Results were: Ladies’ Staff Race.—Miss N. Freeman 1, Miss 11. Currie 2. THE SUN 100Yds Championship.—G. K. Prebble 1, E. Brainsby 2. Hop, Step and Jump.—E. Brainsby 1. Ladies’ Race, Open.—Miss Robinson 1, Miss Cochrane 2. Sack Race.—T. J. McMillan 1. Pine Island Handicap.—Scott 1, Hughes Novelty for Delivery Boys.—Williams 1, Tunny 2. Married Ladies’ Race.—Mrs. Ward 1, Mrs. Walsh 2. Runners’ Handicap.—Crompton 1, Field 2. Picnic Film A moving picture of the picnic was taken by the Fuller-Hay ward Company, and will be screened at the Majestic Theatre to-night and on each programme until Thursday. On Friday and Saturday it will be shown at the Prince Edward Theatre. Newton.
