REMUERA ARRIVES
MANY FAMILIES ON BOARD A CALL AT PITCAIRN The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Remuera arrived from England last evening after a splendid trip. Only two days of rough weather were experienced on the whole voyage. Included in the 168 third claas passengers were many nominated immigrants, several of them with large families. One family included eight children and another seven, while there were numerous threes and fours. A call was made at Pitcairn Island, where the natives came off in small boats selling fruit and curios. The islanders have got past the stage of bartering, and nowadays £.l is asked for a curio which a few years ago could have been bartered for an old coat or some other article of clothing.
Not the least interesting of the Remuera’s cargo was a number of Hungarian partridges for the Auckland Acclimatisation Society. They will be liberated in the Auckland Province-
