MINISTER AND MAORI

A MONG the many deputations received by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. K. S. Williams, at New Brighton on Wednesday last, was an aged Maori, who addressed the Minister in his own language. Mr. Williams appeared to understand perfectly, and interjections by him, which seemed to the pakehas present to be mere grunts, were evidently shrewd oomment, judging by the expressions on the faces of the other Maoris. The Minister replied in the Maori language.
