“GETTING GERTIE’S GARTER”

A FIRST NATIONAL FILM At last we have “Gertie” charmingly interpreted by piquant Marie Provost, and the intriguing tale of her decorative feminine appendage brought to the screen in the First National photoplay version of the famous stage play, “Getting Gertie’s Garter,” punctuated naturally by de luxe laughs and riotous humour ad lib., the lively and daring plot revolves around the main theme, which of course is concerned with the notorious garter, which is the innocent and unprotesting cause of a tangled web of intrigue, wherein is sprinkled liberally elegant blondes, vivid brunettes, disporting themselves through an amazing variety of amusing situations. Charles Ray is the lover who, after presenting “Gertie” with his portrait ingeniously affixed to the garter, suddenly decides that there is something in this “Gentlemen Prefer” complex, and promptly falls in love with a beautiful blonde. Quite naturally he desires to regain possession of the garter, and most of the fun is centred round his frantic efforts to regain it. Marie Prevost is particularly good as “Gertie,” and a strong supporting cast, who are all responsible for fine characterisations in this entertaining farce, includes Sally Rand, Fritzi Ridgway, and Frank lin Pangborn.
