LITTLE THEATRE
PREPARATIONS FOR “IF” The presentation of “If,” Lord Dunsany’s remarkable play, by the Auckland Little Theatre Society, will be an event of some importance. The play itself requires careful and elaborate handling, and the society is making every effort to outdo its past performances. Beginning on March £8 at the concert chamber of the Town Hall, the season will be for four nights. Dunsany has a subtle wit, a fantastic mind and a fine stage sense. “If” is numbered among his best plays, and has the added charm of being the first to be presented in Auckland. Among the cast will be Messrs. Montague Steele, J. N. Gordon, F. E. McCallum, Tom Harris, Jack Stewart, Arnold Goodwin and Captain Redmond, Misses Marie Gaudin, Joy Bartley. Beryl Nettleton and Bettina Edwards. Some delightful and fantastic scenery has been designed for the production. “Chang,” the most unusual picture yet produced, was seen in Australia for the first time at the AthenaeLim Theatre, Melbourne, on Saturday, January 28. Lady Stonehaven and suite from Government House were present, also many other distinguisehd guests. HLindreds were unable to gain admission to see “Chang,” as the theatre was booked out long before the opening night. “Detectives” has been selected as the title of the next Metro-Ooldwyn-Mayer picture for Karl Dane and George K. Arthur. This is the farcical account of the adventures of a pair of amateur detectives. The Karl DaneGeorge K. Arthur co-starring picture dealing with circus life and previously known as “Circus Rookies,’ has been re-titled “Monkey Business.” Louise Lorraine has the leading feminine role.
