“DUTY BEFORE ALL ELSE”

COLONEL ALLEN’S CONFIDENCE (From Our Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, To-day. “Duty must come before all else,” said Lieutenant Colonel S. S. Allen, the new Administrator of Western Samoa, when the Morrinsville Borough Council expressed its gratification at the appointment last night. He expressed regret that he would be unable to complete his term as Mayor, and he declared that he would do his best in the position. Admitting that he knew nothing of “the job,” Colonel Allen said, “naturally I am pleased at my appointment, which, however, was not of my own seeking. I have no personal knowledge of the territory, but I feel confident and I intend to do my best. The Administrator will go to Wellington early in April to see the Prime Minister. With Mrs. Allen and their six-year-old son, he will leave for Samoa on April 12. The Deputy-Mayor of Morrinsville, Mr. W. McPherson, said that the appointment was thoroughly deserved, and it had given the council considerable pleasure. The task before the colonel was not an enviable one, but all who knew the qualities of the man were confident that he would justfy the appointment.
