FOOTBALL MEETINGS

NORTH SHORE RUGBY CLUB The North Shore Rugby Union Club began its 1928 season last evening with the annual election of officers. In the absence of the president, Mr. G. M. Reid, the chair was taken by Captain Redmond. The annual report made reference to the effect of the wet weather last winter on the attendances at matches. The senior team, which began the season under auspicious circumstances fell away during the competitions. The juniors, particularly the first team, had played well; the third intermediate and the sieventh grade were favourably noticed. In the middle of the season the secretary, Mr. O’Brien, had left the district, being replaced by S. Craig. The balance sheet was very creditable, receipts totalling £104; a balance of £l2 8s Id is in hand for this

season; the club’s assets are valued at £826, and it has no liabilities. Officers for this year lire: —Patron, Mr. R. T. Michaels; president, Mr. G. M. Reid; secretary, Mr. W. B. O’Brien; club captain, Mr. W. Elworth; treasurer, Mr. G. B. Beere; committee, Messrs. Sinclair, Fairgray, Jackson, Oram, Baxter, McDonald and Broughton; selectors, Mr. Fairgray and Mr. Johnson,- with the club captain; delegates Auckland Rugby Union, Messrs. Elworth, Oram and Jackson; Junior Management Committee delegate. Captain Redmond: medical officers, Dr. Clive Lowe, Dr. Bennett, Dr. Eade: auditor, Mr. W. Walsh. On the motion of Mr. Oram a vole of sympathy with the president in his illness was passed. The retiring secretary, Mr. Crai? was accorded a vote of thanks. He proposes being away from New Zealand during the season. Captain Redmond, in reporting that the juniors’ weight had been changed from lOst to lOst 71b, urged strict observance of the rule.

Muir presided oyer an attendance of 70 members and intending members.
