IN THE MARKET PLACE
DEARER PEACHES EGG MARKET FIRM Steady trading is reported in most departments in the City Marts with practically no movement worthy of special note. With picking operations in full swing for export and cool storage requirements, there is a tendency to glut the market with low-grade apples and pears. These sorts are in little demand and hard to quit. Good quality apples, particularly Cox's Orange, sell freely. Louise Bon pears have also hardened in price over the last day or so. Supplies of good paches are tightening up, and the market has advanced Is to 2s a case over the week. Heavy supplies of tomatoes continue to come to hand’from the Hutt, keeping the market at a low level. Grapes are also offering freely with increased supplies coming to hand from Te Kauwhata. A limited supply of mushrooms meets with a ready sale. In the field and garden produce section the market for potatoes and onions is slightly easier following heavier arrivals from the South. Good Southern potatoes meet with a keen demand. Most varieties of vegetables are well supplied. The egg market continues firm at late quotations, short supplies meeting with a keen demand. Large offerings of all kinds of birds are coming forward in the poultry sections. Pullets and ducks are in particular demand at the moment, good freely at satisfactory prices.
