WELCOME TO BARRY

A picturesque old-world guard of honour awaited H. A. Bar.ry, the world’s sculling champion, when he arrived at Waterloo, London, on February 4, on his return from Vancouver, where he won the title. It was made up of winners of the famous Doggett’s coat and badge, who had turned out to do honour to a famous brother waterman. In their coats of red wine colour, brown and blue, and their peaked velvet caps, and each with the great distinctive badge upon his arm, they gave colour to the crowd that welcomed Barry. Barry was almost mobbed as he left the train, but he made a dive through his admirers to reach his wife and greet her. Escorted down the platform by his picturesque guard, he boarded a waiting charabanc -and was driven away.
