A RIVAL FOR LAY

SJTAN LAY, the Hawera javelinthrower, will face formidable opposition at the Olympic Games if J. Demers, an American Varsity student is competing. This young man holds the American Varsity record with a throw of 205 feet, and is reported to have beaten the world’s record in practice last month with a throw of 221 ft 9in. Whether Demers can repeat this in actual competition and under ordinary conditions remains to be seen.
