MAORI GIRL STAR

MISS DEILIA NEWTON, pictured here, the winner of the secondary schools’ singles championship, is a pupil of the Technical College. She accomr l; - u ■■ ,l this year what she just failed to do last year, when Miss Phyllis Grenier beat her in the final. She is a member of the Eden and Epsom Club, which she represented in the second A grade team this season. In 1926 she won the New Zealand Girls’ Championship at Auckland and the Maori Girls’ championship went to her at Wanganui last Easter. Together with her cousin, Miss Phyllis Rukutai, she holds the Maori Women’s Doubles Championship. These two girls are now in the final of the secondary schools* doubles final to be decided on Saturday.
