PATIENTS PAY MORE
NEW PLYMOUTH HOSPITAL BOARD SAVES RATEPAYERS Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, To-day. The Taranaki Hospital Board has decided to increase patients' fees from 9s a day to 12s, subject to the approval of the Health Department. It was reported that the actual cost of the treatment a day was 13s 4d. The question of instituting paying wards for patients who are able to afford higher fees was discussed, but no action was taken. The reasoning of the board was that 'the hard-pressed ratepayers should be relieved by making financial patients pay higher fees. Those in poor circumstances would receive every consideration.
