“VALLEY OF THE GIANTS”
COMING TO PRINCESS AND * TIVOLI Milton Sills is ideally cast as Bryce Cardigan, the super-he-man of First National’s fine picturisation of Peter B. Kyne’s virile novel, “The Valley of the Giants,” which will be shown at the Princess and Tivoli tomorrow. The refreshingly new locale of the giant redwoods of the north-west is an intereseting feature of the production, which succeeds in bringing something of the remarkable beauty and appeal of the practically virgin forests of California to (he screen. An interesting insight is afforded into the workings of a huge lumber camp, the background of a strong story which, in his powerful characterisation, Sills makes the most of, fighting his way through and overcoming obstacles that might have daunted any man not made of such stern stuff. He is the hero of fistic battles that surely cannot be surpassed for realism, and effects a rescue of a runaway train that is breath-taking, to say the least of it. His wife, Doris Kenyon, who returns to the screen after a long absence, is cast as the daughter of his father’s business rival, and is particularly sweet as the heroine. A setting of real grandeur, swiftfire action, and a beautiful romance, make “The Valley of the Giants” outstanding.
“Wolf’s Trail,” a Universal Western feature photo-drama, is replete with fast action and thrilling incident, with the elements of melodrama worked up with many thrills that will keep you interested throughout. This picture, starring “Dynamite,” a police dog, will also be shown at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres to-morrow, with a featured cast. Edmund Cobb plays, the leading “human role,” supported by Dixie Lamont, Edwin Terry, Joe Bennett and others. Francis Ford made the picture from the story and screen adaptation of Basil Dickey.
