HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE Under date March 17 the High Commissioner for New Zealand cabled as follows: ; Eggs Low prices for eggs have restricted supplies from the Continent. The market is firmer. Present quotations are: Danish, 12s to 14s Gd per long 100; French and Dutch, 11s to 13s 6d; English, 11s 6d to 12s 6d; Belgian, 11s 6d to 11s 9d; Polish and Egyptian, 8s to 9s 6d. T allow Prices for tallow are lower, and there is a better demand at present for spot. Quotations are: Mutton, fine 44s to 45s a cwt, fair to good 37s to 39s 6d, dark to dull 34s 6d to 25s 6d; beef, sweet and/ or mixed 39s to 41s, fair to good 35s to 38s; mixed, fair to good 35s to 37s Gd; gut, etc., 355. HEMP The Manila market is weaker, under selling pressure, and a limited demand. J grade, March-May shipment, sold at £37 15s, closing at £37 10s sellers. The sisal market is qui§t but steady. Good marks of Tanganyika No. 1 sold at £37, ordinary at £36 10s, and No. 1 at £35 to £34 15s respectively. New Zealand: The market continues quiet. Small business is reported in fair afloat at £29 10s to £3O; March-May shipment offered at £3O without buyers; closing values, March-May shipment, high points, £32. Wool The sales continue to be well attended. There is a good all-round demand, and prices Show a hardening tendency. TAUMARUNUI STOCK SALE /From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. Sheep were in good demand at the local stock sale to-day, and the following prices were realised:— Good wethers, 23s 3d; two-tooth wethers, 21s 9d, 22s to 22s 9d; six-tooth and four-year-old ewes, 26s 6d; four-year-old ewes, 23s 3d; five-year-old ewes, 255; three and four-year-old ewes, 265; best ewe flambs, 20s Id; best wether lambs, 17s; others, 14s 3d, 14s 6d to 14s 7d; m.s. lambs, 13s to 13s 3d; cull lambs, Ss to 12s. Weaner pigs made up to 14s. FRANKTON STOCK SALE Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual weekly stock sale at the Prankton saleyards on Tuesday, March 20, as under:— There was a good entry of beef, which sold at late high rates. Choice cow and heifer sold at equal to 2Ss to 30s‘ a 1001 b, according to quality. There was a fair entry of store steers, which met with a good sale at late rates. We sold three-year-old steers at £5 2s 6d, two-year-old steers at £5 14s, and 18rnonths steers at £4. A moderate yarding of fat sheep met a market very firm at late rates. Best ewes made 255, heavy wethers 30s to 325, and woolly fat lambs 28s. There was a large yarding of store sheep and lambs, which met with a keen demand at an advance on rate rates. Our yarding totalled 2,450. One hundred and sixty-seven mixed aged good-framed ewes made 295; 360 four and five-year ewes, 24s 9d to 245; 150 two-tooth ewes, 30s: 147 four and five-year ewes. 21s 7d: 90 cull ewes, 13s; 414 ewe lambs, 18s 6d to 19s; pen ewe lambs, shorn, 17s; pen wether lambs, 14s lid: 370 wether lambs, 15s 7d; 120 wether lambs, 12s 6d; pen cull lambs, 8s Sd; 157 shorn lambs, 13s 3d; Romney rams, 1 to li guineas; Southdown rams, 7 guineas. There was an average yarding of pigs, which sold at late rates.
