HORTICULTURISTS’ IDEA A proposal that the Auckland University College should be requested to take the necessary steps to establish a separate chair of botany, "in view of the utmost importance of the subject to primary producers,” was contained in a resolution of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture received by the University Council at its meeting yesterday. While agreeing that such a chair would be of great value to the province members of the council could not quite see where the money was to come from. One of the council suggested that as the chair was to benefit primary producers perhaps the farmers could be induced to supply the mon The president, the Hon. G. Fowlds, said he thought the matter would, for the present, have to be kept steadily in view.
