This is doe to the fact of five hospitals—namely, London, Charing Cross, Westminster, King’s College, and St. George’s—banning further women students.
The attitude of the male students has aroused feeling. They declare that women interfere in athletics, are a distraction to studies, and do not lake successful doctors, also that Medicine is not a lit subject for mutual St This decision has aroused consider„i,ie controversy, feminists asserting that it would be outrageous if athUic ambitions were suffered to override the medical education of women, which is essential in the national Interests. They are urging women not to subjcribe to a hospital where women are not admitted. On the other hand, a Harley Street socialist expresses the opinion that the decision is wise. Doctors generajlj. agree that mixed medical schools ate an utter failure. He adds that where women are admitted, the males adopting athletics, which create an invaluable
esprit de corps, turn to social distractions and tea parties, and become "poodle-fakers. ” Women ought to have their own schools, where they would evolve their own traditions and school spirit. | Dr. Winifred Cullis. Professor of ! Physiology in the University of London, replying to a suggestion that women doctors are frequently unemployed, denies that they are unsuccessful, and adds that their opportunities are increasing. * “Women are always glad,’’ she'adds, “to have doctors of their own sex practising in the district.” The next development in the hospital sex war will be Dr. Graham Little, M.P. for London University, contesting legally, the ban at the London University Senate’s meeting on March 21, pointing out that a sex ban is illegal under the statutes.
