NEW TIME-TABLE MADE FOR EAST COAST RAIL
EXPRESS CONNECTIONS EXCURSION TO OPENING The time-table for the East Coast railway, which will operate on and after March 29, has been approved by the Railway Department. A through journey from Auckland to Tauranga and vice versa will be possible on three days during the week, while a generally better service than hitherto will be sustained over those portions of the line that have been operating for some time. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday a train will leave Waihi for Tahawai at 9.35 a.m., arriving at Tahawai at 10.15 a.m. This will connect immediately with a train for Tauranga, arriving there at 11.40 a.m. Another train leaves Waihi at 4.30 p.m., reaching Tahawai at 5.10, connecting immediately and arriving at Tauranga at 6.35. On the same days a train leaves Tauranga at 7.20 a.m. and arrives at Tahawai at 8.43 a.m., . connecting at 8.45 with a train to Waihi, arriving there at 9.30. A second train .lea/ves Tauranga at 1.55 p.m. and reaches Tahawai at 3.25 p.m., and Waihi at 4.18 p.m. The 7.20 a.m. train from Tauranga will connect at Paeroa with the Thames express, which arrives in Auckland at 4.53 p.m. The Thames express, which leaves Auckland at 9.30 a.m., will connect at Paeroa with the train which reaches Tauranga at 6.35 p.m. Hitherto there was no Wednesday train on the East Coast line, the service from Tahawai to Waihi running only on certain days during the week. Excursion fares for the opening of the new 1 line are being issued by the department from any part of the North Island to Tauranga on Monday and Tuesday, March 26 and 27, and will be available up to Saturday, March 31. A special train will leave Frankton at 5.45 a.m. on March 28 to attend the opening of the line at Tauranga.
