IN HARD TRAINING

AUCKLAND ROWING CREW HEAVY MEN IN THE BOWS HALLYBURTON JOHNSTONE CUP Since there has been considerable discussion, at different times, as to the weighths of the men in the Auckland provincial rowing crew, which is to race for the Hallyburton Johnstone eight-oar cup at Wellington on Saturday, the appended table of weights is of interest. The men were weighed, stripped, in the Hamilton Club’s shed at the conclusion of a hard spin on Sunday, with the following result:

The aggregate weight of the crew is 1,3351 b, and its average weight per man is 31st 131 b. This is a very useful poundage, but the manner in which it is distributed in the boat, with the heavier men in the bows, stroke and seven the two lightest men in the ship, and bow-side 3st heavier thaji stroke side, does not agree with accepted rowing tenets. As a crew, rowing well together and hitting the water with a good clip, the combination has shaped well in its practice spins. Colours, black and gold, have been selected. The crew will accordingly turn out in black singlets with a broad gold band round the chest.
