ITALIAN ELECTIONS
MUSSOLINI’S DRASTIC SCHEME APPROVED
By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. ROME, Saturday. The Italian Chamber of Deputies, by 205 votes to 15, approved Signor Mussolini’s drastic scheme for the future election of members, in spite of Signor Giolette’s protest that it was unconstitutional. —A. and N.Z.
A message from Rome on February 20 stated:—The Italian Cabinet has approved a new constitutional law which will completely change the character of the Chamber of Deputies and substitute an entirely new election scheme. A final list of candidates will be drawn up by the Fascist Grand Council from lists submitted by professional or labour federations and other public bodies. The electors will vote “Yes” or “No,” and a majority of one will be sufficient to sei cure the adoption of the. entire list. The ! same majority against the list will mean its rejection, in which case a new list , will be drawn up and the election will j be repeated.
