FOR SOLDIERS’ HOMES
ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT TO BE CHEAP POWER BOARD ADVISED Soldier settlers are not to be encouraged to buy expensive electrical fittings, because the department as mortgagee might be called upon to pay for them. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote to the Waitemata Power Board to-day, suggesting that applications for the installation of power in properties subject to mortgages under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act should be referred to the department for consideration. He gave the reasons mentioned above. The chairman, Mr. J. W. Hayden, suggested that the board should accede to the request and limit the quality of fittings in mortgaged houses. Mr. S. E. Kennings said that the general question of security was raised. It was decided to refer the question to the board in committee.
