THREE OF ARRESTED ENGINEERS REEASED
GERMANY’S DEMANDS RELATIONS WITH SOVIET By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. BERLIN, Sunday. The Soviet has released two others of the arrested German engineers in addition to Herr Goldstein, and the release of the remaining three is expected shortly. Germany is demanding safeguards against a recurrence of such treatment before considering whether commercial negotiations will be resumed with Russia. Herr Goldstein, one of the General Electric Company’s engineers, was released on the ground that he had only been in Russia three weeks, and could not have participated in the alleged sabotage plot at Donetz, in the Don Basin coal region. Nevertheless, the attitude of the German Government is unchanged. It still adheres to its demands for an explanation of the arrest of the six engineers, and for facilities for an interview with the accused men. Six of the largest industrial organisations in Germany have passed resolutions of protest, and have also expressed their determination not to send experts to Russia until the affair has been settled satisfactorily.—A. and N.Z.
