BAND CONCERTS
OPEN-AIR PROGRAMMES The Artillery Band delighted an exceptionally large crowd in Albert Park last evening, when a carefully selected programme of concerted items was played. The night was ideal, and tbe instrumental combination was heard to pleasing advantage. Included in a long programme were the following selections: —March. “Palmer House” (Pettee); overture, “Lustpiel” (Keler Bela); “The Unfinished Symphony” (Schubert); cornet duo. “Ida” and Lot” (Losey), soloists, Messrs Lavis and Hogg, selection, “Chu Chin Crow” (arr. Ord Hume); hymn. Sandon": selection. “Pirates of Penzance (Sullivan); march, “Steadfast and True” (Tieke). The Municipal Band played at the zoo yesterday afternoon and at th* Town Hall in the evening. The programme included: “Changing Guard. “Cumberland’s Own,” and “The Woman Soldier” and a hymn. “Th* Roseate Hues of Early Dawn,” wer* included. Selections from “The Merry Widow” and “Les Huguenots” were also given. Mr. Hal C. McLennan gave n piccolo solo, “Through the Air,” other numbers being an overture, “The Hebrides,” and a suite of three Irisn dances and a waltz by Fibich. Among the selections played in the evenimr were the overture, “Stradella,” an in termezzo scene, "In a Persian Market, and the march, “El Abanico,” nil of which proved popular. A well received item was a duet by two cornets, “The Swiss Boy,” by Messrs. Fred Bowes and R. T. Morgan. Savoy opera gems comprised a delightful feature of the programme.
