MINISTERS ON TOUR
FRANKLIN ELECTORATE TO-DAY The Minister of Lands, the Hon. A. I>. McLeod, and the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. K. S. Williams, aruved in Auckland this morning. Later they visited Papakura, where they received deputations, and in the afternoon went through the Franklin electorate. To-morrow and Wednesday also will be spent in the Franklin district, and on Thursday the Ministers will tour the Raglan electorate. The Minister of Eductaion, the Hon. K. A. Wright, who spent the week-end in Auckland, left this morning for Te Aroha, where he will open the new district high school. He will visit Paeroa on Tuesday, Waihi on Wednesday ind Tauranga on Thursday, leaving tor Wellington on Friday. OTAHUHU DOMAIN
At Otahuhu the chairman of the domain Board, Mr. R. B. Todd, sought aid in the proposed addition of seven acres to the Domain, the area being owned as a quarry by the Mount Wellington Road Board. Negotiations have keen under way for 3 0 to 15 years. The board had agreed to accept £ 600 Tor the land, but the Domain Board considered they should get it transferred far nothing, on condition that the £6OO was spent on beautifying. }lr. Todd pointed out that the acquisition would allow of a new road from the Mount Wellington Highway to the Oreat South Road. Mr. McLeod thought th/it If the Quarry was of no use for metal the Road Board should not want eompenMtion, but it was more a 10c.% difference than a Government question. TAMAKI BRIDGE The party inspected the Tamaki pridgt? on the Great South Road, the bridge being out of date and not on hne Tttth, the concrete road. The Minsters were told that a number of cars gone over, and no satisfaction had Win gained from the Highways Board in some two years. The traffic, it was pointed out, warranted a new structure. east tamaki post office At the East Tamaki Post Office a fjeputation of settlers was introduced "7 Mr. E. D. McLennan, M.P., and Mr. Ross, as their spokesman, pointed but the inadequate facilities and the unsatisfactory state of the ru%il delivery. A site had been provided for a new office, and had been waiting for i*nt years. About 200 people in the immediate vicinity would benefit. TAMAKI CATTLE BRIDGE speakers dealt with the proJyJJJ new Tafnaki Bridge on the ■ittle route. They asserted that this ns a bridge mainly to serve a few P'ople concerned in a cutting-up proposal. and the ratepayers did not want •e responsibility. The taking of a poll u aa suggested before the ratepayers liable. Mr. Williams: Do vou want a bridge or not? Spoliation's idea scejned to be at it did not mind the bridge, but it a n °t want any responsibility.
