UNHEEDED WARNINGS
MOTORISTS AND LIQUOR AFTER-HOUR PURCHASES (From. Our Own C orrespondent.) WANGANUI, To-day. The ease with wfcich people can go to hotels after hours and secure liquor was the subject of a severe criticism by Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M.. to-day, when a young man named Langslow, night porter at a local hotel, faced two charges of supplying liquor to some youths from the country, who attended Wirths* Circus and then went to the hotel and obtained a flask of whisky and a bottle of beer before taking the road again. It seemed inexplicable. Air. Barton said, that after all warnings motorists still go to hotels and procure liquor with perfect ease. Those using the roads faced enough risks without having to confront fciis kind of thing. This was the second case he had had lately. In fining defendant £5 and costs on each charge, which was only half what he had intended, he took into account the plea of counsel that the fine would fall on the backs of innocent creditors of the hotel. Future cases would be severely dealt with.
