MANAWATU WELL AHEAD Press Association. PALMERSTON X., To-day. The Alanawatu cricket team met Alarlborough in the first challenge for the Hawke Cup yesterday. The witfket was fast and the outfield was in good order. Alanawatu batted first and compiled 333. Practically all the batsmen made a good showing. N. Gallichan giving further proof of his qualifications for New Zealand honours by knocking up 106. Ongley (67) and Pacey (51) were the next best scorers. Marlborough failed badly in the brief period before stumps were drawn for the day, two wickets falling for IS.
