DESIRE FOR PROGRESS

AUCKLAND A. AND P. ASSOCIATION SHOW FIXTURE DISCUSSED A keen desire to make their summer fixture more attractive to the general public was evinced by members of the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association at the annual meeting of the association held yesterday. Unanimous support was accorded suggestions that no effort should be spared to make the show the leading one of its kind in the Dominion. Mr. W. W. Massey presided. During the past year, stated the president, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the association had started on a new era of progress. Many important changes had taken place, but much more could be done, however. He was dissatisfied with the lay-out of the present showgrounds, and considered more should be done to make the spring fixture more attractive to the general public, who, after all, kept the show going. Without the gate it would be almost impossible to carry on. The whole question was one which required the serious consideration of the council, and the speaker hoped that all would co-operate to ensure greater progress in the future. Other speakers suggested confining the show to the association’s own grounds, as in the past it had been spread over too wide an area. Other suggestions were made regarding the display of stock. On the motion of Mr. A. D. Bell it was decided to recommend the incoming council to concentrate future shows as much as possible on the association’s own grounds, especially as far as the stock sections were concerned. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Mr. W. W. Massey; vice-presidents, Mr. S. Austin Carr and Mr. S. Hamlin; general committee, Messrs. W. J. Lopdell, C. G. Brookes, H. C. Grierson, J. P. Kalaugher, W. C. Knight, G. Finn, J. T. F. Mitchell, A. A.. Swaffield, W. Pascoe, A. J. Stratford, A. W. Perkins, A. D. Bell, C. W. Anderson, S. B. Grant, J. Wylie, W. J. H. Reynolds, S. W. Norrish, Rugg, James Wylie, M. B. Kirkbride, S. Hodge, R. Wright, G. R. Hutchinson, J. Meyer, E. Cordes, J. B. Fisher, R. W. Roche, M. G. McArthur, J. B. Tonar and J. Muir.
