A LITTLE WORLD FOR LITTLE PEOPLE
“FOLLOW MY LEADER” FRIENDSHIP IS A STEADY LIGHT SHINING IN DARK PLACES “WHAT an exciting competition,” said the Joy Shop man. “All ft you have to do is to look at these fairies playing ‘Follow mv leader’ for two minutes, shut your eyes, think hard and then write a story about them. The Doorkeeper reserves the right to enter for the painting competitions, but I don’t see why I shouldn’t be able to try a story now and then. I used to be quite good at writing them.” I can tell why they are playing ‘Follow my leader,’ ” said the Little Thought. that boy has bewitched them with his pipes and they simply had to follow him right into the sky. If you listen carefully you might be able to hear what he is playing.” “But how can music come out of a picture?” asked the Joy Shop man. “It doesn’t seem possible.” “Why, of course it is. It may be only ‘pretendy’ music and not the sort big bands and orchestras make, but. I am sure if you listen well those pipes will begin to play. The Sunbeams are sure to hear them when they begin writing their stories. I shouldn’t be surprised if they start playing ‘Follow my leader,’ too.” “What is it?” called the Doorkeeper, “ilave you thought of a new game?” “No,” said the Joy Shop man, “we’re listening for some music.” “But I can’t see anyone playing any.” “Well, there is,” answered the Joy Shop man. “Oh, look, Little. Thought, the boy with the pipes has stepped right out of the picture with all the fairies at liis heels. I can hear his jnpes quite plainly. . . . Let us all join in and play ‘Follow my leader,’ too. Where is the Dawn Lady? I am sure she would love to play this game.” “Where is that wonderful music coming from?” asked the Dawn Lady, appearing hastily on the scene. “Why, whatever shall we do! Those fairies were supposed to keep in the picture until the Sunbeams wrote their stories about them and here they are bewitching everything in Happy Town. Little Thought, you must be my partner. .. . Goodness! Away we go!”
