IMPORTATION OF CANARIES
Mr. W. A. Moore, the secretary of the Auckland Yorkshire Canary Club, has been in communication with the Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, regarding the importation of canaries, and has received the following reply:—• “Sir, —I have the honour, by direction of the Hon. Acting-Minister of Internal Affairs, to acknowledge receipt of your letter in reference to the importation of canaries. “In reply, I have to advise you that it is necessary to obtain the consent of the Minister under the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, in each case of importation of thes# birds. “This department is, at all times, prepared to arrange for early consideration to be given to any such application received, but .it is regretted that it is not possible to depart from the requirements that prior permission for importation must be obtained in each case. “It is necessary to forward evidence that permission for the landing or birds has been obtained when placing orders to avoid any trouble with the shipping authorities. “Provided the original warrant ® available in the Dominion when the birds arrive, there is no objection to such warrant being sent abroad.” From the foregoing letter it a P* imperative that permission must *>• obtained prior to ordering the birds* We would suggest to fanciers intending to import, that they obtain tne permit, then hand it to the local suncollector of Customs- This officer would, no doubt, issue a receipt iw the permit, and this receipt could oe forwarded with the order for birds a the same time, asking the vendor i hand it to the shipping agents. tnu» proving that the necessary permissio to import has been obtained Splodged with the Customs authorities at the port of disembarkat^gg^^^g
